Katy Perry - Roar (Official Music Video - watch now!)

Earlier today, the music video for Katy Perry's new single 'Roar' was released online on her vevo channel (scroll down for video). If you'd like to read a review of the song itself (+ lyric video) then you can click the link below:

The music video itself is a bright explosion of colour and centres around a 'jungle' theme, where Perry and her companion crash land in a jungle and have to survive. Watch the video below and then we'll review the music video in it's entirety.

As previously stated, the video opens with Perry and her seemingly vain and self-centered companion stranded in the jungle, having crash-landed their plane. I'm sure viewers will immediately spring to mind the idea of Tarzan as Perry's inspiration (portraying a Jane type of character) and with good reason. Adhering to the lyrics, Perry blindly follows her partner around the jungle even though it's clear he has no idea what he's doing. Until he gets mauled by a tiger.

Yep, you heard that right, a grisly tiger jumps out of the bushes and jumps him. Cue cut in the track and Perry screaming and running away. Well, I wasn't expecting that. Well now Perry is on her own and let's just say she doesn't look thrilled about it, being attacked by crocodiles, spiders and the like; it's clear to see she's not exactly in her element.

But we needn't have worried, as quicker than a flash, Perry has turned everything around and fashioned a spear out of half of her shoe and found a monkey friend. She's really getting stuck in - having a shower with an elephant, brushing the teeth of a crocodile (um, what?) and exploring caves. Suddenly before you know it Perry emerges with a leopard print bra and grass skirt - who knew she was such a whizz at making jungle garments?

Perry swings across vines and then comes face to face with a tiger (is it the same one who killed the companion - who knows?) and instead of running for her life (like any sane person would do) she decides to 'roar' at it. Yeah, that'll totally work. Oh, it worked? Well I suppose it wouldn't have made a very good ending if we saw Perry get mauled by the tiger as well (although it would have been realistic).

Oh and incase you're wondering what happened to the tiger, it would seem Perry has adopted it, and given it a bejewelled collar labelled 'Kitty Purry.' So it looks like she's content with her jungle animals then, although I'm curious as to why out of all the things that survived the crash, Perry's camera survived - so she could take selfies with a monkey.

Well, that was interesting, but what are your thoughts? Did you love it/hate it? Did it make you laugh and most importantly was it entertaining for the right reasons? And, are you yourself a fan of the song?
