Marina and the Diamonds - Part 11: Electra Heart

So it's all over. We've had all 11 promotional series parts off the 'Electra Heart' album from Marina and the Diamonds. Not sure what I'm talking about? Well, today Diamandis has released the music video for the last promotional release from her album, appropriately titled 'Electra Heart' after the album name. The track is a mix of pop and electronic and possesses an eclectic, rhythmic beat with general breaks to accompany Diamandis' vocals.
The lyrics, unlike some other songs, encompass great meaning in regards to the rest of the 'releases' in the series; as the song starts off with 'I'm Electra, I'm Electra Heart' and continues with 'only living, living in the dark' culminating in 'can we go back, go back to the start' which reflects the whole theme of the album. As you may be aware, the album reflects multiple persona's and styles and deals with love and relationships. Diamandis herself has described the album as 'an ode to dysfunctional love' and said that she based the 'character types' around those 'commonly found in love stories, film and theatre'.
However, Diamandis has stated that she wanted to create and portray 'Electra Heart' as a character who is 'cold, ruthless' and not 'vulnerable', and the track certainly reflects the journey of the character and of the archetypes of female personality. The music video (below) is a thoroughly intriguing watch, for new-comers and those who have followed the 'series' throughout, to see the end product.

The music video features a montage of clips from the previous 'parts' in the 'series' such as 'Radioactive', 'Primadonna', 'Power & Control' and 'How to be a Heartbreaker', and the video is a reflection of this journey and 'mini film series' about the character 'Electra Heart'. The video also intertwines old clips with Marina Diamandis standing in what appears to be a forest, singing and looking at the camera whilst the pace and images change and flicker back and forth, mirroring the change in pace and beat in the track.

It's certain the video has an intriguing take in terms of visual imagery, and I'm sure it will serve as a poignant memory of the album for Diamandis' fans. There is no moment more bittersweet than the ending, where Diamandis as her character 'Electra Heart' finally wipes off her 'heart' mark on her cheek, signifying the end of
the Electra Heart era. If you haven't been following this journey as such, then it's not too late to relive it!
