This was a reasonable end to the series, with a fairly satisfying conclusion and, for me, it was definitely better than the first book. 

The main draw of this final installment is definitely Serenity. She is strong, fierce, violent and ambitious in this novel. She makes plans, she makes threats, she follows through on said plans and threats, and she cares - despite picturing herself as a monster. She knows exactly what she wants and she hasn't got time for anyone else's BS. She fights for peace and she becomes a beacon for the peoples' hope with regards to ending the war. 

The novel starts with an ass-kicking sequence, in which Serenity, who is understandably pissed, wakes up after 100 years 'asleep' - serious Sleeping Beauty references here - and has no idea what the eff is going on. It's a roller coaster few pages for her where she must come to terms with A LOT of stuff. Her strength of character in this first section is definitely something to behold, in fact, her character development throughout the novel is very satisfying. 

Montes is as horny as ever, which, I guess, is a fundamental part of his personality. I always take his dialogue and internal thoughts with a pinch of salt; short from deeply loving Serenity and wanting to protect her, there's not much else going on upstairs. But there's a lot going on downstairs.. ~if you know what I mean~

There is a large number of twists and turns scattered throughout this book, which makes it a real page turner. However, some revelations are a tad on the ridiculous side. There's a convenient explanation for everything, and although this does not serve to decrease the tension, it does serve to make the plot far less believable or realistic. 

The chuckle brothers are seemingly back at it again with their security antics, as it seems at every public event Montes and Serenity attend, the venue blows up, they are shot at, and almost killed. Their insurance premiums must be through the roof.

There are some fun new character additions to the supporting cast, although it would have been nice to see them occupying a more dominant or consistent role in the story-line - Styx, for example. 

Overall, this is a fun and slightly ridiculous conclusion to the series, which is not without its flaws, but considering the previous installments, would you want it any other way?
